Do you know the difference between VA COMPENSATION AND VA Wartime PENSION?

April 24, 2020

Compensation

A benefit paid to a veteran because of injuries or diseases that happened while on active duty, or were made worse by active military service. They are being “compensated” for their injuries.

Many Veterans don’t apply for benefits because they only know about compensation benefits. Since they weren’t injured during their service they feel they are not eligible.

War time Pension

However, there is an underutilized benefit that is not reliant on an injury during service time called Wartime Pension. Benefits paid to wartime Veterans, and their widows, with limited income and assets, who are no longer able to work. Once eligible the recipient receives a monthly check that they can use however they wish. There is also an add-on benefit to Pension called Aid & Attendance which can increase the amount received if the applicant needs daily hands on care or “aid and attendance” of another person.
